Improve K8SAAS SLA on Api Server

Context

API Server is responsible serving all kubernetes objects for internal and external components. If API server slow down, it can affect operations and application on kuberntes. Azure offer two types of tier for this component:

  • Free, default configuration for K8saas cluster. This level offer an SLA of 99.5%
  • Paid, this configuration offer an SLA of 99.95 with K8SAAS setup. This feature is billed 0.10$ per cluster per hour

When I need to update tier

there are various situation where performance or avaibility of api server could decrease but 2 majors situation required to increase SLA:

  • Size of cluster is growing and simple operation like deploying ingress failed frequently.
  • You're using component like Horizontal Pod Autoscaler or operator that uses custom resources CRD.

note: K8saas cluster already uses operator to handle certificates, backup and deployment.

How to monitor API Server

Into "cluster overview" grafana dashboard you could observe the AKS tier and the budget of api over last 30 days. If you see some degration on avaibility you could switch to dashboard Kubernetes / API server that give much details.

How to request udpate

Just open ticket on PostIT and ask to upgrade to the API Paid tier.
